This playful and creative recipe turns a classic cereal treat into a bite-sized “sushi” roll, perfect for a fun breakfast, a unique dessert, or an after-school snack.
Ingredients
- For the ‘Rice’:
- 3 tablespoons butter1
- 1 (10-ounce) package of marshmallows
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- For the ‘Filling’ and ‘Toppings’:
- Fruit roll-ups (any color or flavor)
- Gummy worms2
- Chocolate chips
- Sprinkles or other small candies
Tools
- Large pot
- 9×13 inch baking pan
- Parchment paper3
- Spatula
- Sharp knife
Instructions
- Prepare the Rice Krispies base. In a large pot over low heat, melt the butter. Add the marshmallows and stir until completely melted and smooth.4 Remove from heat.
- Add the cereal. Stir in the Rice Krispies cereal until it is well coated with the marshmallow mixture.
- Form the ‘sushi mat’. Press the mixture evenly into a 9×13 inch baking pan lined with parchment paper. Let it cool and set for about 30 minutes.
- Cut and fill. Once the Rice Krispies layer is firm, turn it out onto a flat surface. Trim the edges to create a large rectangle.
- Take a long, thin piece of fruit roll-up and place it along one of the long edges of the Rice Krispies Treat rectangle.
- Place a row of gummy worms, chocolate chips, or other desired filling on top of the fruit roll-up.
- Roll the ‘sushi’. Carefully and tightly roll the Rice Krispies rectangle, starting from the side with the filling. Use the parchment paper to help you roll it.
- Slice and serve. Once the roll is complete, use a sharp knife to cut it into individual “sushi” rolls, about 1 inch thick. Arrange them on a platter and serve immediately.
