Turn an ordinary croissant into a fun, edible crustacean with this creative and simple recipe. Perfect for a themed party, a unique lunch, or a playful snack.
Ingredients
- For the “Crab”:
- 4 croissants
- 1 cup seafood salad or shredded chicken salad
- 8 pretzel sticks
- 4 small pieces of red bell pepper, cut into a claw shape
- 1-2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
- 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives
Tools
- Knife
- Small spoon or piping bag
Instructions
- Prepare the croissants. Slice each croissant horizontally, as if you were making a sandwich, but do not cut all the way through.
- Fill the croissants. Spoon a generous amount of seafood salad or chicken salad into the center of each croissant.
- Add the “legs.” Break the pretzel sticks in half. Gently poke four “legs” into each side of the croissant, pushing them into the filling to hold them in place.
- Create the “claws.” At the top of the croissant, near the end of the “mouth” opening, use a knife to carefully make a small slit on each side. Insert a piece of red bell pepper into each slit to create the “claws.”
- Make the “eyes.” In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the chopped chives. This will be your “eye” mixture. Using a small spoon or a piping bag, place two small dots of this mixture on top of the croissant, above the filling.
- Serve. Arrange the “Crab” Croissants on a platter and serve immediately.
