Turn an ordinary croissant into a fun, edible crustacean with this creative and simple recipe. Perfect for a themed party, a unique lunch, or a playful snack.

Ingredients

  • For the “Crab”:
    • 4 croissants
    • 1 cup seafood salad or shredded chicken salad
    • 8 pretzel sticks
    • 4 small pieces of red bell pepper, cut into a claw shape
    • 1-2 tablespoons cream cheese, softened
    • 1 tablespoon finely chopped chives

Tools

  • Knife
  • Small spoon or piping bag

Instructions

  1. Prepare the croissants. Slice each croissant horizontally, as if you were making a sandwich, but do not cut all the way through.
  2. Fill the croissants. Spoon a generous amount of seafood salad or chicken salad into the center of each croissant.
  3. Add the “legs.” Break the pretzel sticks in half. Gently poke four “legs” into each side of the croissant, pushing them into the filling to hold them in place.
  4. Create the “claws.” At the top of the croissant, near the end of the “mouth” opening, use a knife to carefully make a small slit on each side. Insert a piece of red bell pepper into each slit to create the “claws.”
  5. Make the “eyes.” In a small bowl, mix the softened cream cheese with the chopped chives. This will be your “eye” mixture. Using a small spoon or a piping bag, place two small dots of this mixture on top of the croissant, above the filling.
  6. Serve. Arrange the “Crab” Croissants on a platter and serve immediately.
