This is a fun, healthy, and easy-to-make snack that’s perfect for a party, a picnic, or a creative treat. These colorful caterpillars are as fun to eat as they are to assemble.

Ingredients

  • For the Caterpillar Bodies:
    • 1 cup seedless green or red grapes
    • 1 cantaloupe or honeydew melon, scooped into balls
  • For the Heads and Antennae:
    • Fresh blueberries or strawberries
    • Thin pretzel sticks or small pieces of licorice for the antennae

Tools

  • Wooden or plastic skewers
  • Melon baller (optional, but recommended)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the fruit. Wash the grapes thoroughly. If using a melon, use a melon baller to scoop out round melon balls.1
  2. Assemble the body. Take a skewer and, starting from the blunt end, thread on alternating grapes and melon balls. You can use any combination of colors you like to create a fun pattern. Leave about an inch of space at the pointed end of the skewer.
  3. Add the head. Place a blueberry or a strawberry on the end of the skewer to serve as the caterpillar’s head.
  4. Create the antennae. Gently break two small pieces of pretzel stick and carefully insert them into the top of the blueberry or strawberry head to create the antennae.
  5. Serve. Arrange the “caterpillars” on a platter and serve immediately.
