This is a fun, healthy, and easy-to-make snack that’s perfect for a party, a picnic, or a creative treat. These colorful caterpillars are as fun to eat as they are to assemble.
Ingredients
- For the Caterpillar Bodies:
- 1 cup seedless green or red grapes
- 1 cantaloupe or honeydew melon, scooped into balls
- For the Heads and Antennae:
- Fresh blueberries or strawberries
- Thin pretzel sticks or small pieces of licorice for the antennae
Tools
- Wooden or plastic skewers
- Melon baller (optional, but recommended)
Instructions
- Prepare the fruit. Wash the grapes thoroughly. If using a melon, use a melon baller to scoop out round melon balls.1
- Assemble the body. Take a skewer and, starting from the blunt end, thread on alternating grapes and melon balls. You can use any combination of colors you like to create a fun pattern. Leave about an inch of space at the pointed end of the skewer.
- Add the head. Place a blueberry or a strawberry on the end of the skewer to serve as the caterpillar’s head.
- Create the antennae. Gently break two small pieces of pretzel stick and carefully insert them into the top of the blueberry or strawberry head to create the antennae.
- Serve. Arrange the “caterpillars” on a platter and serve immediately.
