This classic dessert is as fun to make as it is to eat. It’s a simple, no-bake treat that brings a touch of playful nature to the table, complete with delicious chocolate and gummy worms.

Ingredients

  • For the ‘Dirt’ and ‘Mud’:
    • 1 (3.9-ounce) package of instant chocolate pudding mix
    • 2 cups cold milk
    • 1 (14.3-ounce) package of Oreo cookies (or similar chocolate sandwich cookies)
    • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • For the ‘Worms’ and ‘Garnish’:
    • Gummy worms
    • Optional: Fresh mint leaves or small candy flowers for garnish

Tools

  • Clear cups or jars (4-6, depending on size)
  • Medium-sized bowl
  • Whisk
  • Food processor or a large resealable plastic bag and a rolling pin

Instructions

  1. Prepare the ‘Dirt’. Place the Oreo cookies in a food processor and pulse until they form fine crumbs. If you don’t have a food processor, place the cookies in a large resealable plastic bag, seal it, and crush them with a rolling pin.1 Once crushed, stir in the melted butter and mix well.
  2. Make the ‘Mud’. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the instant chocolate pudding mix and the cold milk for about 2 minutes, or until the pudding is thick.2 Let it stand for 5 minutes to set.
  3. Layer the cups. This is where the fun begins!
    • Start with a layer of the Oreo ‘dirt’ mixture at the bottom of each clear cup.
    • Next, add a layer of the chocolate pudding ‘mud’.
    • Add a few gummy worms, letting some peek out of the pudding or hang over the sides of the cup.
    • Repeat the layers: a layer of ‘dirt’, then ‘mud’, then more worms.
  4. Top it off. Finish with a final generous layer of the Oreo ‘dirt’ on top, completely covering the pudding. Place a few more gummy worms on top, as if they’re crawling out of the dirt.
  5. Chill and serve. For best results, cover and chill the cups in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes to allow the layers to set. Garnish with a fresh mint leaf or a candy flower if you’re making a “garden” theme.
